Self-Hosted Collaboration Tools: More Than Just Code
Today was a reminder that building a solid product involves more than just writing code.
I spent the day shaping a structured presentation for co-founders and future stakeholders. The goal: to showcase the current state of both the tech company we’ve established and the main product we’ve been developing under its umbrella. The presentation includes a clear narrative flow — pitch, overview, and technical details — for each major theme: infrastructure, product, roadmap, and team readiness.
While refining slides, I also formalized our internal documentation. The knowledge base now includes a breakdown of tooling, SDLC stages, CI/CD, architectural standards, security practices, and developer workflows. This documentation will support onboarding as we expand the team.
Another highlight: the setup of our self-hosted collaboration tools using NextCloud. It’s more than just storage — we now use integrated tools like:
- Talk for real-time communication,
- Shared calendars and task lists,
- Online forms and document sharing,
- Group-based folder structures (e.g. for internal boards or teams).
NextCloud has proven to be a lightweight yet powerful collaborative platform, with full control over data and no licensing traps.
All of this complements the hands-on engineering work — ensuring that what we build is not only functional but also explainable, repeatable, and well-documented.
